DUE January 1--Coaching Application for 2019 Summer Swim

    Hi Parents,

    Just a reminder that coaching applications for the 2019 Summer Swim Season are Due on Tuesday, January 1st.  Applications are accepted from all swimmers aged 14+ at the start of the season.

    Parents, please be sure to forward this email to your swimmers if they are interested and have not already contacted Coach Lindsey.  Due to privacy reasons, the Swimtopia website only allows emails to go to the parents of swimmers.

    Hello Swim Family,

    It is time to start looking ahead to our 2019 summer swim season and select our awesome coaching staff. I am asking everyone (even those coaches who want to return) who is interested in coaching this summer to please fill out the attached application and return to me by January 1st. You may also include a formal resume. All applications should be sent to linzsmith143@hotmail.com.

    Please remember that I have a limited positions available and if you are not chosen it does not mean that you are not important to the team! Decisions are based on qualifications, board recommendations, and performance/attitude last summer as well as number of positions available. You must be 14 years old by May 1, 2019 to apply. Here are the character traits that I am looking for in our coaches followed by the list of positions and expectations :

    1) Experience working with kids of all ages

    2) any type of coaching experience

    3) can give clear directions and instructions

    4) Is comfortable working independently as well as with a group

    5) Confidence in creating sets and workouts for various age groups based on their specific needs

    6) Identify and correct incorrect technique in swimmers

    7) Know and be able to teach rules, techniques, turns, dives

    8) set up and take down lanes, blocks, fins, flags

    9) lead dryland exercises

    10) lead by example

    11) follow directions easily

    12) be encouraging to the younger swimmers and be a role model

    13) dependable: attendance at duel meets/county meet/practice are expected. You can miss up to one week including one meet without it affecting your pay or your position as a coach. Please let me know if you have any outside activities that may affect your attendance.

    Mini Coach

    Hours 7:50-10 am Monday-Thursday start date with minis

    • Work with a small group of kids in the water with stroke instruction
    • maintain control of the group and keep a watchful eye in the water
    • lead warm up exercises
    • be an example and role model on the deck and off...the kids are watching
    • Show team spirit and work hard during your own practice
    • help the coach and assistant coach when needed
    • help with mini meets

    Mini Head Coach Hours 7:45-10 am Monday-Thursday start date May 14th (with 6U).

    • Create a schedule after sign-ups
    • communicate with parents about the program and send the schedule on or before May 1st. Continue communication throughout the summer about parties and meets.
    • coordinate mini meets
    • Identify mini’s who need to move up to 6U
    • run 6U practice
    • Manage mini coaches and report on performance
    • Plan the mini party
    • Relay coordinator- take the check-in sheet and double check relays. Start to line up relays with assistant coaches and get them on deck.
    • Help with 6U at county practices and meet

    Jr. Coach Hours 7:50-10:30am Monday-Thursday start date tbd through county practice

    • Help the coach and assistant coaches when needed during practice
    • Work with a small group of swimmers in the water or in a lane
    • Demonstrate proper technique
    • Lead dry land exercises
    • Set an example and be a role model on the deck and off-the kids are watching you!
    • Show team spirit and work hard during your own practice
    • Swim at all meets you are available for
    • Encourage the kids from your lane during the meets
    • Help lineup relays or walk kids to the blocks

    Assistant Coach Hours 7:30-10:30(set-up and clean up) start date tbd through county practices.

    • Help the coach where needed during practice
    • Work with a small group of kids in a lane
    • Come up with drills for your lane when needed
    • Help with set-up or clean up each practice. Help with lanes/fins/kick boards
    • Help with fun-fridays
    • Be a lane leader during 15U practice
    • Help with meet( warm-ups when not swimming, relays, keep deck clean, encourage swimmers from your lanes, be available if needed, set an example-have fun but don’t goof off. Be a leader)
    • Help with seeding
    • Be an example and a role model on the deck and off-the kids are watching you!
    • Show team spirit and work hard during your own practice
    • Be on time

    Assistant Head Coach Hours 7:30-11:30 start date tbd through county swim meet.

    • Help the coach where needed during practice
    • Work with a small group of kids in a lane
    • Come up with drills for your lane when needed
    • Help with set-up and clean up each practice.
    • Identify kids who need to change lanes/move up or down
    • Help manage coaches and report on performance
    • Help with seeding and entries
    • Help with fun-fridays
    • Help with meet: check-in, warm-ups when not swimming, help coordinate relays and help the kids behind the blocks, help record splits and times, be on deck and available when not swimming, encourage swimmers from your lanes
    • Be an example and a role model on the deck and off-the kids are watching you!
    • Show team spirit and work hard during your own practice
    • Be on time
    • Assist with county practices
    • Assist at county (all weekend)
